According to Metacritic, this statement is justified by the fact that there was a small number of games launched for the current console generation this year. Besides, most of the AAA titles were postponed for 2016.
Another argument would be, just like last year, that there were only 14 games with scores over 90; 9 of these games were launched also on consoles, in comparison with 2014 which had 11 console game versions. Aaand, from the 9 games, only 3 of them (!!!) were new titles, such as: Metal Gear Solid V, Bloodborne and The Witcher 3.
As a mention, the highest score was received by the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, but since the game was launched in 2014 on consoles, it was not considered to be the game with the highest score, so Metal Gear Solid is the one to remain as the best game this year.
